About PennyCup Coffee Co.

PennyCup Coffee Co. is a small-batch Asheville specialty coffee roaster owned by Bill Tanner and Amber Arthur.

Its name nods to the penny universities of the 1800s, and it describes its cafés as places for coffee, community and curious conversations. PennyCup opened its first tasting room on Depot Street and a downtown café in the YMI Building in 2016, and it now runs cafés downtown, in East, North and West Asheville and in Woodfin. Its single origins have come from Papua New Guinea, Nicaragua, Peru, El Salvador, Colombia, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Haiti, where a sun-dried Thiotte Emerald Reserve shows notes of caramelized sugar, jasmine and peach. Subscriptions and wholesale are offered.
