About Szykier Coffee & Bistro
Szykier Coffee & Bistro is a specialty coffee café and bistro on Północna in Łódź, on the ground floor of a tenement built in 1900.
The name recalls Ezra Szykier, a merchant who imported Hungarian wines from a shop at the corner of Nowomiejska and Północna. Original polychrome ceiling decoration, found during a 2015 renovation and conserved, sits against a raw brass bar left to oxidise, mobile furniture and plants, in a design by Koziej Architekci. A smaller red room has no speakers, kept for conversation. Owners Paulina Nadel and Sebastian Jasnoch set it up as a meeting place for musicians, writers and actors, and evenings bring concerts and dance nights. Espresso, V60, batch brew and cold brew come with homemade cakes, breakfast and a summer garden.
