About Local Joe Coffee Roasters
Local Joe Coffee Roasters on North King Street is a Black-owned Chinatown Honolulu specialty coffee café and roaster founded in 2015.
Founder Charles Asselbaye, a Peet's-trained roastmaster born in France and raised in Central Africa, roasts on a Probat drum roaster, using Hawaiian volcanic water to humidify the beans. The café serves espresso drinks, cold brew, a 100% Hawaii coffee of the day and Hawaiian mamaki tea, with bagels, breakfast muffins, wraps and a vegan burrito. Beans are sold to take home. It opens weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
