Specialty coffee in Vietnam

Specialty coffee in Vietnam puts fine robusta and home-grown arabica on the bar, with Hanoi's Hoàn Kiếm district the centre of the scene covered here. Vietnam is a coffee producer first, and its everyday cup is robusta brewed through a phin filter; egg coffee is a Hanoi speciality. The specialty generation works with that heritage: some roasters specialise in fine robusta brewed the traditional way, while others source arabica and robusta from Sơn La, Quảng Trị, Đắk Nông and Lâm Đồng alongside imported single origins. In Hanoi, Blackbird Coffee opened in the Old Quarter in 2018, ACID8 Specialty Coffee in 2019 and refined. in 2021.

Most cafés listed here are in Hanoi's Hoàn Kiếm and neighbouring Cửa Nam, with a few in Hai Bà Trưng, Kim Liên and Láng; Ho Chi Minh City has a smaller listing with a roaster.

Roasters include XLIII Specialty Coffee. Expect phin, siphon and AeroPress on the same menu, egg coffee on some specialty menus, and Vietnamese origins served with the same care as Ethiopian or Costa Rican lots.
