Specialty coffee in Slovakia

Specialty coffee in Slovakia centres on Bratislava, a city with 17th-century café traditions and a modern scene of small local roasters. Bratislava's historic café culture resembles neighbouring Vienna's, and its specialty generation draws on both local roasters and Czech ones. Cafés in the Old Town and around Bratislava Castle pour beans from Goriffee, a Bratislava roastery, alongside Czech names such as Industra and Father's. The city also hosts a specialty coffee festival at the Refinery Gallery, renamed the Roast Different Festival in 2026, which brings together roasters from Slovakia, Czechia, Poland and Hungary.

Bratislava holds by far the largest share of cafés, and roasting is spread more widely than the café map suggests: Banská Bystrica, Trnava, Žilina and Nitra all have roasters of their own. Košice and Prešov in the east have growing café scenes, and smaller towns such as Levice, Poprad, Martin, Prievidza and Trenčín each have a few specialty bars.

Roasters that shape the Slovak cup include Goriffee roastery, Good Times coffee roasters, Red Fawn Coffee Roasters, Diamonds Roastery and Káva Ondrejka. Expect espresso and hand-brewed filter on most menus, cold brew, and multi-roaster bars that rotate Slovak and Czech coffees.
