Specialty coffee in North Macedonia

Specialty coffee in North Macedonia is centred on Skopje, where Drip is regarded as the first specialty coffee shop. The specialty scene has built gradually over the last decade, with most of its growth in the past few years. Drip focuses on filter brewing, including Chemex. The Dude Specialty Coffee roasts in-house and won a competition in 2024, Lusso rotates single origins and supports local roasters, and Oud serves espresso tonics from a corner of the Old Bazaar. Forty3 offers its own take on the Greek freddo espresso.

Skopje holds most of the cafés listed here. Bitola has a couple of specialty cafés, and Kumanovo, Tetovo and Ohrid on the lake each have one.

Expect espresso and filter, cold drinks such as the freddo, and cafés that double as places to work. The scene has more cafés than dedicated roasters, so many bars pour beans roasted elsewhere.
