Specialty coffee in Canada

Specialty coffee in Canada has one of its strongest centres in Calgary, a city that has produced many of the country's national barista champions. Calgary's reputation began with Phil & Sebastian, founded in 2007 by two University of Calgary engineers who started at a farmers market. Monogram Coffee, launched in 2014 by Jeremy Ho, Ben Put and Justin Eyford, and Rosso Coffee Roasters, home to two-time Canadian Barista Champion Cole Torode, followed; Ho and Put are also Canadian champions.

The cafés listed here are mainly in Calgary, which also has a listed roaster. Ottawa, Regina and Niagara-on-the-Lake each have a café, and coverage of other Canadian cities is still limited.

Roasters include Rosso Coffee Roasters, Subtext Coffee Roasters, Café Union and 94 Celcius. Expect espresso and filter at the specialty bars, and multi-location roasters such as Rosso and Phil & Sebastian with several cafés across Calgary.
