La Choza
Pink Bourbon
La Choza is a 4 hectare plot on a steep mountainside outside of Buesaco, where Janeth del Carmen Narváez grows coffee in Colombia's mountainous Nariño region. We have come to appreciate coffees from Nariño over many years, for their dense sweetness and intense, concentrated flavours in the cup, with a high degree of clarity. Incredibly high altitudes, often over 2000 masl, and excellent sun exposure mean sugar-rich, slow-matured coffee cherries, with ample fuel for fermentation and roasting to create complexity and intensity.
This lot is of the Pink Bourbon varietal, processed using a traditional washed method. The Pink Bourbon varietal has been made famous further north in Huila; this is the fist time we have been able to purchase this varietal grown in the rugged high altitude terrain of Nariño. Janeth received Pink Bourbon seeds from an Inconexus project a few years ago; this is the first exportable harvest from her small plot.
In the cup, we find the combined character of Pink Bourbon and of Nariño; bright, floral and tropical, followed by a pin sharp, dense and juicy balance.
