About EXCELSA
EXCELSA is a specialty coffee bar on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard in Ocean Beach, San Diego, built around the often-overlooked excelsa coffee species.
The café opened in 2025 and uses small-batch coffee roasted nearby by Excelsa Coffee for every drink. Excelsa grows where arabica cannot, carries naturally lower caffeine and tastes smoother and less acidic, which the bar puts front and centre. The short menu has three parts at one flat price: an espresso bar with flat whites, cortados and a half-caf americano; a rotating single-origin pour-over, recently from the Quang Tri Highlands of Vietnam; and a cold program of cold brew, nitro on tap and a seasonal Excelsa Tonic. Occasional patio events, such as wood-fired pizza nights, bring in the neighbourhood.
